How to Make Peanut Butter Banana Bars

Peanut Butter Banana Bars are so easy to make. To start, blend your oats in a food processor until they are ground into oat flour. You can also use quick oats instead of old-fashioned oats. Blend all of your ingredients in the blender until they’re smooth. Pour the batter into a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes. At 20 minutes, check how done the bars are by inserting a toothpick into the bars. When the toothpick comes out clean, the bars are ready. Store the bars in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Benefits of Peanuts

Peanuts and peanut butter make a great source of nutrients for kids. I give my kids peanut products most days because they’re a great source of protein, fiber, healthy fats and nutrients. My 10 year old daughter Adalyn is now in cross country and I give her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for her races for amazing fuel.

My son Oliver and daughter Lily absolutely LOVE peanut butter in so many things, especially in their oatmeal and on their beloved “peanut butter bread” which is just peanut butter spread on top of an open faced slice of whole-wheat bread.

I partnered with The Peanut Institute to share all about why peanuts are a great choice for people of all ages, body types and ethnicities. Peanuts are super versatile, affordable, nutritious and easily accessible, making them a healthy food.

Eating Peanuts and Reducing Cancer Risk

Along with a healthy diet, regularly eating peanuts and peanut butter can help prevent some types of childhood cancers. A 2024 study shows that the polyphenol-rich skins on peanuts may inhibit the growth of childhood leukemia cells. The polyphenols reduced the increase of these cells for up to 72 hours after eating them. The skins in peanuts have bioactive compounds including antioxidants that help to neutralize free radicals that damage cells. So when possible, look for peanuts with the skins on.

Just eating peanuts regularly is associated with a lower cancer risk. Having 2 servings of peanuts or peanut butter a week reduced the risk of benign breast disease in young adults by 39%. Grab some peanuts or peanut butter and enjoy!

Presidents Cup: U.S. win much closer than appeared thanks to this stat

Presidents Cup: U.S. win much closer than appeared thanks to this stat

The United States won the Presidents Cup once again, this time by a score of 18.5-to-11.5, winning for the 10th straight time.

Their defeat of the Internationals at Royal Montreal marked the largest margin of victory by an away team in Presidents Cup history, leading one to assume that the U.S. steamrolled to glory once again.

But that was not the case.

Of the 30 matches contested this week, the U.S. won only one more hole than the Internationals—a mind-boggling reality.

The competition was astonishingly close, especially after the home team knotted the score at five on Friday. Nobody saw that coming, especially since the U.S. swept the opening Fourball session on Thursday. But even that sweep was somewhat tight. The U.S. won only eight more holes on Thursday—20-to-12—across the five matches, much closer than what the 5-to-0 sweep looked like on paper.

The Internationals then dominated Friday Foursomes, winning 27 holes. The U.S., meanwhile, mustered only seven. The Internationals had all the momentum, emphatically taking all five points.

Saturday proved close as well, but the U.S. pulled away in the latter half of both sessions, breaking the hearts of the Internationals down the stretch. In the morning Fourballs, the U.S. took three of four points but won only three more holes than the Internationals.

A similar result for the afternoon Foursomes followed. The Americans won 22 holes, while the Internationals won 19. But the final two matches of the day ended with 1-up victories in favor of the U.S. After the sun had set, Patrick Cantlay drained a birdie putt on 18 in the last match, which gave the away side an 11-to-7 advantage going into Sunday singles. Had those two results gone the other way, Sunday would have arrived with the score knotted at nine.

Yet, the Internationals still won more holes across the first four sessions. The home team had won 69 holes overall, while the Americans won 63.

But with the U.S. having a stronger team and great historical success mano a mano, the competition was all but over at that point. The U.S. needed only 4.5 more points to win the Presidents Cup again, and they achieved that in the sixth match of the day, when next year’s Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley defeated Si Woo Kim 1 up.

Despite the disadvantages the Internationals faced in Singles, they won 47 holes to America’s 54. The overall totals were 117 for the U.S. and 116 for the Internationals.

“One hole, essentially. The margin was so close,” said International Captain Mike Weir on Sunday night.

“That’s what makes it tough because we know how close it was. We know a couple of things go our way, and it could have at least started the day quite a bit differently today, and who knows if we wouldn’t have been in such a deficit.”

At last year’s Ryder Cup at Marco Simone in Rome, where the Europeans trounced the Americans 16.5 to 11.5, the home team won 25 more holes across the competition.

Two years ago, the U.S. defeated the Internationals 17.5 to 12.5 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte—a score closer than the one in Montreal. But the U.S. won 26 more holes than their counterparts, proving they had control all week.

This past week in Canada was very different.

“The result, unfortunately, is the same,” said Adam Scott, who just finished his 11th Presidents Cup appearance.

“With a deep dive, I think there are positives always to see, and hopefully, hopefully, this competition inspires all of us sitting up here to play really hard, go on with our careers the next two years, win big events, and come back better prepared and ready to win in Chicago.”

The Presidents Cup returns to the United States in 2026, when Medinah No. 3 in Illinois will host. The famed Chicagoland course last hosted a major competition in 2012, when the Europeans stormed back on Sunday to shock the Americans on their home soil. Known as the “Miracle at Medinah,” the Americans held a 10-to-6 lead going into Sunday Singles but proceeded to lose eight matches—vaulting Europe into a state of glory while the U.S. relegated themselves into agony.

The Internationals hope to do what the Europeans did then: upset the Americans on their home soil and win the Presidents Cup for the first time since 1998. They have the talent and camaraderie to do so, and the stats back that up.

“I felt like there’s been an evolution under this Shield the last two Cups, four or five years of that, and buy-in from all the international players,” Scott added.

“It’s something that they aspire to play for. And I felt we just had a great trip up here. The personalities were great. I think you saw that under the heat of competition this week from some of these guys, maybe some unexpected personalities out on the golf course, some expected as well.”

You saw those personalities shine through the Canadian best friends Mackenzie Hughes and Corey Conners, who fed off the home crowd. Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim did, too, as they celebrated like they had just won the U.S. Open on some holes. They ignited spirit and flare into this competition, entertaining golf fans around the world.

They will undoubtedly do so again in 2026, when this team storms back with a vengeance. The Internationals will not shy away from the American dominance of the past two decades but rather point to the stat that showed how close this thing really was.

One hole.

One hole was the difference, and a few bad breaks along the way. But that happens in golf. Nevertheless, when looking back at the 2024 Presidents Cup, people should first remember that ‘Yes, that Cup was much closer than the final score indicated.’

Indeed it was.

Half of Haitians facing hunger as violence persists | Hunger News

Half of Haitians facing hunger as violence persists | Hunger News

New report says 5.41 million people are experiencing ‘high levels of acute food insecurity’, with gang wars and inflation the chief drivers of the crisis.

Almost 48 percent of people in Haiti are experiencing acute food shortages amid ongoing armed gang violence, a new report says.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said in the report released on Monday that 5.41 million people in the beleaguered Caribbean nation were facing “high levels of acute food insecurity” between August 2024 and February 2025.

Of the overall total, 6,000 people are “experiencing catastrophic levels of hunger”, the world-hunger watchdog warned.

“Haiti continues to face a worsening humanitarian crisis, with alarming rates of armed gang violence disrupting daily life, forcing more people to flee their homes and levels of acute food insecurity to rise,” the report reads.

Haiti was already reeling from years of unrest when powerful armed groups – often with ties to the country’s political and business leaders – launched attacks on prisons and other state institutions across the capital, Port-au-Prince, in February.

Despite international efforts to soothe the situation, and the appointment of a new government, the rule of law remains scarce and the violence persists.

At least 3,661 people were killed in Haiti in the first half of this year amid the “senseless” gang violence that has engulfed the country, the United Nations said on Monday.

Violence in Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas is creating “serious difficulties in supplying basic foodstuffs to the regions, limiting households’ physical and financial access to food”, the IPC warned.

The difficulties have led to high inflation, which is identified as another contributing factor. Food now consumes up to 70 percent of household expenses, the report said.

People displaced by gang war violence live inside a classroom at Darius Denis school, which transformed into a shelter where people live in poor conditions, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti May 5, 2024. Nearly half of the country’s population is struggling to feed themselves due to the conflict, unable to work, the families depend on food rations and hygiene kits brought in by non-governmental organizations

The residual effects of “climate shocks” such as Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and the 2021 earthquake were also exacerbating the hunger crisis, the IPC said.

Ongoing security challenges

Gangs now control about 80 percent of Port-au-Prince, along with key roads leading to northern and southern Haiti, severely disrupting the delivery of goods and humanitarian aid.

At least 1,379 people were reported killed or injured between April and June. Over the past few years, gang activity has left more than 700,000 people homeless.

A UN-backed mission led by Kenya, which began in late June, has managed to liberate some communities from gang control.

However, officials warn that significant challenges remain.

“The situation is not expected to improve during the projected period (March to June 2025) as humanitarian food assistance is not expected to meet the needs of the population,” the IPC sums up. “After relative stability in the second quarter of 2024, violence increased sharply in the third quarter. This trend will likely continue, affecting the supply chain and intensifying population displacement.”

Description

Looking for the best ever recipe on how to make potatoes in an air fryer? This easy, healthy 6-ingredient Smashed Air Fryer Potatoes with Rosemary is your go to, classic air fryer potato recipe from now on.

  • 1 pound small, thin-skinned potatoes (i.e., Yukon Gold, red-skinned, creamer)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon salt (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  1. Scrub potatoes with a vegetable brush, leaving them whole and unpeeled.
  2. Place potatoes in a large pot. Add enough water to just cover the potatoes, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil. Cook potatoes over medium heat just until they are tender when pierced with a fork, but still firm and intact (do not overcook); about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat immediately and drain off water. Set aside, but do not chill.
  3. While potatoes are cooking, bring the olive oil to heat in a small skillet. Add garlic, rosemary, salt (if using), and black pepper and sauté over medium heat until the garlic is golden (about 4 minutes). Remove from heat.
  4. Place cooked potatoes on a cutting board or baking sheet, allowing sufficient space between potatoes to smash them. Use a glass or mason jar to smash the potatoes, applying just enough pressure to flatten each potato until they are about 1-inch thick.
  5. Brush each potato with a bit of the olive oil mixture.
  6. Carefully place the smashed potatoes with olive oil in the basket of the Air Fryer creating only one layer of potatoes. Set the Air Fryer to 400 and cook for 8-10 minutes, until the potatoes are golden brown on surface. Remove the cooked potatoes, and repeat the process until all potatoes are cooked.
  7. Serve immediately. Makes 4 servings (4 ounces each)

Notes

Do not discard crumbled pieces of potatoes. Cook them in your Air Fryer with the potatoes.

Trust Michael V. to come up with a wacky version of P-pop IT girls BINI‘s hit song “Salamin, Salamin” which he tweaked to satirize societal ills such as extrajudicial killings and sexual abuse.

Written and directed by Michael V himself, his music video which he cleverly retitled “Salarin, Salarin” debuted on “Bubble Gang” last Friday, in which he performed alongside his “Bubble Gang” costars, Kokoy De Santos, Matt Lozano, Buboy Villar, and Betong Sumaya, who collectively were called BINI-b10.

The gang tickled the audience’s imagination after they channeled the candy pop theme of BINI’s MV, but which they spiced with their own comedic flare.

Part of the parody version’s lyrics read, “`Wag po ‘ko! `Wag kuya! ‘Pag nagtago ha-hunting-in.”

Netizens took to the comment section on Instagram to share their interpretation of the song.

A local #MeToo movement recently has begun with young male personalities who have bravely came forward to speak against alleged sexual predators in the entertainment industry.

The case of Sandro Muhlach sparked Gerald Santos, Ahron Villena, and Enzo Almario to make public their own experiences of sexual abuse and exploitation at the hands of those they trusted to acted in their best interests.

Muhlach, accused two network directors Jojo Nones and Richard Cruz of sexually molesting and raping him inside a hotel room, while Santos and Almario alleged they were sexually harassed by musical director Danny Tan, when they were 15 and 12, respectively. On the other hand, Villena did not name his assailant.

Meanwhile, thousands were killed in the anti-drugs campaign mounted by former President Rodrigo Duterte during his term, and which is now subject of a criminal proceeding before the International Criminal Court.

Massive search and rescue operation in wake of Hurricane Helene | Floods News

Massive search and rescue operation in wake of Hurricane Helene | Floods News

Crews have airlifted emergency food and water into remote North Carolina towns that were cut off and devastated as tropical storm Helene turned the western part of the state into a “post-apocalyptic” landscape.

A hurricane when it slammed into the Florida Gulf coast on Thursday, Helene tore a destructive path through southeastern US states, ripping up roads, tossing homes about and severing lines of communication.

The storm killed more than 100 people in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.

The death toll is expected to rise once rescue teams reach isolated towns and emergency telecommunications assets come online.

Throughout North Carolina, some 300 roads were closed, more than 7,000 people have registered for United States Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance, and the National Guard was flying 1,000 tonnes of food and water to remote areas by plane and helicopter, officials told a news briefing.

Among the demolished towns was the tiny hamlet of Bat Cave, about 100 miles (160km) west of Charlotte, where the Broad River – in what climate scientists called a 1,000-year event – rose to unprecedented levels, washed away homes and broke through the town bridge.

The US government, states and localities are engaged in a massive recovery effort throughout the southeast.

People were stranded without running water and 1.8 million homes and businesses remained without power on Monday, according to the website Poweroutage.us.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said at least 25 people in his state had died, including a firefighter responding to emergency calls during the storm and a mother and her one-month-old twins who were killed by a falling tree. South Carolina has reported at least 29 dead.

In North Carolina’s mountainous Buncombe County, which includes the tourist destination of Asheville, 40 people died, the county manager said.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper took an aerial tour of the damage and said “significant resources” would be needed in the short and long term.

“The devastation was beyond belief, and even when you prepare for something like this, this is something that’s never happened before in western North Carolina. Search and rescue teams are continuing to work,” Cooper told a news briefing.

Some 1,200 federal personnel are on the ground, in addition to state and local responders. The US Army Corps of Engineers is planning major debris removal.

Elderly US citizen pleads guilty in Russia of fighting for Ukraine | Conflict Ne…

Stephen James Hubbard, 72, was allegedly fighting in Izyum before he was captured by Russian forces in April 2022.

Stephen James Hubbard, a US citizen, has pleaded guilty in a Moscow court to charges of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine, according to Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.

RIA said 72-year-old Hubbard admitted in a hearing at the Moscow City Court on Monday that he had been paid to fight for Ukraine against Russia.

“Yes, I agree with the indictment,” RIA quoted him as saying.

Last week, a court ordered Hubbard to be placed into pre-trial detention until March 26, 2025. He faces a sentence of between seven and 15 years if convicted.

Hubbard’s sister Patricia Fox cast doubt on his reported confession, saying her brother was too old to fight. She said he had been living in Ukraine since 2014 and she had last spoken to him over Skype in September 2021.

“He is so non-military,” she told the Reuters news agency by phone. “He never had a gun, owned a gun, done any of that…He’s more of a pacifist.”

RIA, citing a prosecutor in court, said Hubbard had signed a contract with a Ukrainian territorial defence unit in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Izyum at the start of the war in February 2022.

The prosecution said he had been promised $1,000 a month and was provided with training, weapons and ammunition. RIA quoted the prosecutor as saying Hubbard was captured by Russian soldiers on April 2 that year, just weeks after Moscow had started its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is unclear how he ended up in Moscow.

English teacher

Hubbard is one of at least 10 Americans behind bars in Russia, nearly two months after a prisoner swap on August 1 between Moscow and the West saw the release of three Americans and dozens of others.

A spokesperson for the US Embassy in the Russian capital said in a statement last week that it was aware that one of its citizens had been detained, referring to Hubbard, but declined to comment further.

Originally from Big Rapids, Michigan, Hubbard worked for decades as an English teacher abroad, including in Japan and Cyprus, his sister said.

Fox added that her brother had lived with a Ukrainian woman for a time, surviving on a small pension. When she last spoke to him, he had split from his partner and was living alone, she said.

Fox said she had received little information about her brother’s status for months until a video surfaced online.

The video, posted to YouTube in May 2022 by an account with just more than 100 followers, shows a bearded man in a brown sweater sitting facing the camera and answering questions from an off-camera interviewer, who speaks with accented English.

It is unclear where and when it was filmed, but Fox identified the man as her brother.

In the video, the man says he understands why Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine and expresses hope that the war will end soon.
